Sunflowers blossom at a garden in Two Rivers, near Fairbanks. The 2021 É«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ Top Crop Contest, sponsored by the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center, includes a category for tallest sunflower.

How did your garden grow this year? Were the sunflowers extra tall? The pumpkins super-plump or the string beans more strung out than normal? Or did you find something really, really weird lurking in the cabbage patch?

The Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center wants to see photos of all of the above as part of its second annual É«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ Top Crop Contest. Prizes will be awarded in 11 categories:

É«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ¢ Tallest tomato plant, sunflower and cornstalk.
É«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ¢ Biggest tomato, potato and pumpkin, by circumference.
É«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ¢ Longest carrot, corn, bean and pea.
É«ÊÓƵÏÂÔØ¢ Weirdest vegetable.

Take a photo of your entries with a measuring tape and email it to tmisaac@alaska.edu. Include the measurement, the town it was grown in and the date you took the picture. Entries will be accepted from Sept. 20 to Oct. 1.
