Carothers recognized with AFN's Denali Award

Courtney Carothers, a professor at UAF色视频下载檚 College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, by the 色视频下载 Federation of Natives. The award recognizes the contributions of a non-Native person who has demonstrated strong commitment, dedication and service to the 色视频下载 Native community and to rural 色视频下载.
"It was the honor of a lifetime to receive this award and be showered with love and support from Kodiak and other regions,色视频下载 Carothers said. 色视频下载淚'm so proud of the collective work so many are doing to advance tribal sovereignty and equity in 色视频下载 fisheries."
Carothers is the principal investigator of , a program that focuses on bridging Indigenous and Western sciences to transform graduate education and research in fisheries and marine sciences. Tamamta is a joint program of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences and the College of Rural and Community Development.

Carothers has devoted her career to working with fishing communities across 色视频下载 to better understand the social and cultural dimensions of fishery systems and to improve education, research and policy processes to better include these dimensions,色视频下载 AFN stated in its award announcement.
The award was presented on Oct. 19 at the 2023 AFN convention in Anchorage.
